Here's why you should visit Fansipan in Vietnam

Fansipan is 3,143 metres up, so high that you ascend through the clouds in the cable car to get there.

Fansipan is one of the best places to visit in Vietnam. If you have ever wanted to feel like you are on top of the world then this is the mountain in Vietnam to travel to. At 3,143 metres (10,312 ft), it is the highest mountain in the Indochinese Peninsula hence its nickname “the Roof of Indochina”. It is located in the Lào Cai Province of the Northwest region of Vietnam, 9 km southwest of the Sa Pa Township in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range.

You can get to it three ways – walking or trekking, by motor vehicle or by the Guinness Book of Record braking cable car. This trip was the latter, the Fansipan Legend cable car which opened in 2016 lets you enjoy an amazing ride with breathtaking views over the valley and rice terraces. If you have any sort of fear of heights then bring your blind fold with you, although you will miss out the amazing views of the Sapa valley below.

The best time to visit this region depends on your purpose for travel. From March to May, it’s fairly warm and dry, so it’s a great time for trekking. From June to September, you’ll find it rainy and a bit crowded with local tourists. From late September to mid-December, it’s cool and dry, good for trekking and taking photos. From mid-December to February, the temperature drops to chilly and harsh level.

Once you complete the journey up to the mountain you are greeting with an awe inspiring view as far as your eye can see. Then you begin to absorb the huge Buddah and other buildings on top of the mountain. Give yourself plenty of time as the steps are steep, but it is worth it as you slowly make your way around this incredible travel destination.

With lots of facilities available it is a comfortable place to visit with typical shops, food outlets and plenty of places to get out of the elements if you need to.
